Default Car Bokers

I am not sure if I am even in the right place. My father is a owner operator truck driver who gets some loads from car hauler brokers. He has some unpaid debts from them and he said there should be a way to find out if them have a bond and be able to collect based on that. The two currently outstanding are in NY and OH. He is located in NY.

I'm trying to help him out, he's a truck driver and can't chase people down constantly to pay him and I am trying to find the best way to help him collect.

Do car brokers need a bond? if they do have a bond how do you find out if they have one? Do you contact the bond holder for payment?

thanks

Sam

You are on the right site, but the wrong section...Motor Vehicle Dealer Bonds are required of licensed dealers not the transportation of the vehicles. A freight broker can be required by the ICC to have a bond.

If the brokers have a bond you can file a claim with the state government department that required it of them. If they have brokerage authority then the ICC is requiring the bond of them. You may want to start your search there first.

However, I would give the broker one last chance to pay prior to filing a claim on their bond. If they have even one claim they will never obtain a bond again!

thanks...i found a place to search, and found out that they are supposed to have bonds, but they don't. Now I have to find someone to report them too if the next few days don't produce some money.

thanks for the info
