Mortgage brokers may have different classifications depending on exactly what services they are performing. Some do Brokering only, some help with lending and some help with banking. They may have different rating structures on a state level. The best way to find out more about a Broker's repuatation is to look them up on the Better Business Bureau's Website. That will give you a strong idea of how reputable they are.

If I'm unable to find a certain mortgage broker on the BBB website, is there another credible website I could check?

You can usually go to the state web site and look up Mortgage Brokers to see if they are in good standing with the state. There will not be much more information there except for their license activity level.
