I need a MVD bond for the state of Massachusetts. I was told that I will need to provide a copy of the "blank bond form". I cannot seem to obtain a copy of thatform, and I was told that you should already have a copy of the blank bond form. How come I need to provide it?
This is a question I get all the time. However you have to keep in mind that there are literally thousands of different bond forms.
Most states require MVD bonds, right there you have about 35 different bond forms to be kept on file. The states update the bond form from time to time, but they do not inform the agencies it was updated. If the wrong form is used then the bond is denied.
Dealers only account for one of the many different bond types. In other words it is absolutely impossible for an agency to keep thousands of different forms on file and up to date. At least no until there is some database that would inform agents of new bond forms.
Our agency keeps some of the more commonly written bond types on file, but we still require you to fax a bond form with your applications. This helps to keep errors to a minimum so there is no miscommunication between parties. If the bond is written on the wrong bond form then you are back to square one, as you will have to get the correct bond form approved by the surety.
I may have rambled a little there, but I wanted to make sure I covered all bases. Our parent site has a small list of bond forms for some bond classes.
