    Bond vs Car Insurance

I have been told that there is a program in my state of New Mexico that there is an alternative to buying insurance for my car and that I can purchase a bond instead. Do you know what the bond title is and how it works?

    Car Insurance Bond

Car Bond insurance is sometimes another term used for an SR 22, but in other states it is surety bond or deposit. An SR22 policy is a bond or filing made by an insurance company to your state proving you have at least the state minimum required amount of liability. It is usually required to verify to the state your financial responsibility when driving a vehicle after obtaining a citation for a DUI / DWI or driving without insurance.

Is this a common practice for all states? Where can I get a bond like this?
