| I recently got a Freight Broker Bond through an agency, but when I requested a copy of this bond for my own records, I was told that there is no "hard copy". Is this true? And if that's the case, how do I know my bond was actually filed? |

| The ICC is one of the few obligees that use electronic bond filing. Therefore, the agent is correct, there is no hard copy. However, the agent should be able to provide you an electronic receipt of the bond.

| you can verify your bond was filed electronically by checking on the FMCSA's Licensing and insurance web site.(http;//li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov) go to drop box on right, go to carrier search and input your MC#. This will give you a status and complete info of your company. Click on to active/pending insurance at bottom left, that will provide you details on when your bond was posted and its effective date. You still should have received an original BMC-84 form which should have been signed by you. When we file broker trust funds(BMC-85 form), we file electronically but also require officer of company to sign the actual form. Customer is then given original for their files. | If a BMC-84 bond has been filed electronically, there will not be a hard copy of the bond issued - or anything that needs to be signed - with the exception of the Indemnity Agreement. Anyone who needs to verify that a bond is in place can use the FMCSA website to get confirmation. |
