| Hi Surety Bond Gurus, Can you please tell me the difference between the ICC and MC bonds? We have our own trucks and would like to open a Freight Broker. We aleady had the ICC#. As I understand, you have to have a MC# in order to run the Freight Broker company right? Also, can you please direct me to the Bond companies that are willing issue bonds to new bussinesses without collateral. Your help is greatly appreciated. Howie |

| Howie- If you are still interested the ICC# is now your DOT#. The ICC was disolved sometime ago. It is all under the United States Department of Transportation, which has a division called the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration(FMCSA). The FMCSA issues the MC#s. If you currently have common or contract carrier authority, you also have a MC#. While it is not necessary to have a seperate MC# for broker authority, it is highly recommended. Many insurance and suretys frown upon broker authority under the same MC# as carrier authority. It is best to check with you insurance provider before applying. Don Jipping |
