| I have a question about filing bonds. I am a canadian based startup broker who has managed to get a surety bond and a bmc-84 from a canadian insurance company. They said they do not do the filing and that i would have to do the filing with the FMCSA once i have the sealed copy of the bond and the bmc-84. Is this correct? if so how do i go about filing it? i dont see filing instructions on the internet and i have tried calling the FMCSA but cant ever get anyone and they dont seem to call back. any help would be appreciated. thanks. |

I'm not really sure what to tell you. When we write the BMC-84 here in the States, it is filed electronically by the Surety so there is no physical hard copy bond. I'm sure there are companies around who still issue hard copy bonds, but we don't have access to one. Your best option is to keep trying FMCSA to see how they need the bond filed. I can't believe that the company who provided you with the bond can't help you out with your questions. Sorry I can't be more help. |

| The insurance company or surety that issued the bond should have an authorization # from the United States Department of Transportaion and have the ability to file this bond electronically. You may be talking to the insurance agent who sold you the bond and not the actual company that issued the bond. Insurance agents generally(not all) are cluless when it comes to this. The BMC-84 or BMC-85 has to be filed by the Bond provider or the Trustee of the Brokers Trust Fund. Call your agent and get the name and phone # of the company that issued the bond. |

It sounds like you need a BMC-84 (Freight Broker Bond). It would be best for you to call our office and we will direct you to the agent who handles this type of bond. |

| just as a follow up, i ended up receiving the original paper copy of the bond and the BMC-84. It was actually issued by an american insurance company not a canadian one so i am completly lost as to why they would not have filed it electroniclly but they kept insisting they would not. I think my broker was just completly clueless. what i did was simply mail the original to the FMCSA with a proof of delivery, when it arrived it took them about a week to enter that they had received it and another week to approve it. So i guess they do still accept paper copies of bonds. |

| I was under the impression that they did electronic filings exclusively these days. Thanks for following-up!
