I am trying to confirm that a freight broker has a valid surety bond. I have requested that the broker provide the info and have received no response. I do have his MC #. Is there a site where I can find out a broker's bond info?
Your best bet is to see the ICC's web site. I am not sure if they have that information online or if you would have to call.
Come back and post your results if you find out anything interesting, good luck!
Apply for Surety Bonds
To verify that a broker has coverage for unpaid freight charges go to http://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov. Once there, go to dropbox on rightside and select carrier search, enter MC# and click search, click on html, you will have all the company info on the screen, at the bottom left ,click onto active/pending insurance. That will give info on their BMC-84(bond) or their BMC-85(TRUST FUND). Make sure to note if they have a cancellation date. If they do, best to call bond or trust provider to verify.
I recommend this site to all my clients as it does provide up to the minute info.
