Default Background Check?

I am a contractor interested in finally doing govenment jobs, while talking to another contractor about getting bonded he informed me that certain background checks are required for approval. My credit score is strong and I own my property but I was in jail about eight years ago. Will this prevent me from getting a Bid Bond?

Being in Jail 8 years ago should not effect the underwriting process of your bond. Our application does not ask if you have been convicted of a felony or crime. If the Surety Company is researching your company prior to any approval and they find out that a conviction or crime was related to your business they could deny you for a bond but that would be up to the individual Surety Company.
I recommend making sure you run your business ethically and complete your jobs with professionalism and you should not have any problems in the future.
